Story Time Nook

14 years after the birth of my daughter, I had a son. A child that never in a million years I thought I’d have. We would go on many walks through our family friendly yet, diverse neighborhood. In those walks he would point to trees, cars, ands birds, loudly exclaiming “you see it, you see it”. Naturally those words would reverberate throughout our daily walks, hand in hand with each other. He gave me insight into his little mind and he without knowledge gave me a different perspective, a view which even I had not had a chance to experience as a young child. With his limited speech my 2 year old would always say, “You see it, You see it” and that inspired me to write his story based on his interactions with the world. I welcomed his curiosity with excitement and inquisitiveness. Now armed with words, he could share a bit more insight of the world as he was experiencing it. I had written before but never thought about writing a children’s book. It never crossed my mind until I would observe him interacting with his surroundings and how it would fill him with so much joy. I quickly wrote of all the things he would pointed out, cars, colors, things etc. literally taking me only fifteen minutes to write a simple story that any child could follow and see themselves in. I could not say the same for bringing this book into fruition. I was paralyzed by fear and perfectionism, I’d never been great at following through or consistency, but here I was battling the story my brain kept telling me, “it’s not a good story”, “no one is going to buy it”, etc… Eventually I realized that it’s okay if it’s not perfect, but I’d be more disappointed in myself if I didn’t try my best. So here I am, making my first post and I hope you’d join me in this journey and learn a little more about my son and I.
